Hey Everyone,

I'm slightly new, but not really..lol. I had surgery on 4/11 and while I have lost a good amount of weight, I have a rash that started in my chest and spread from chest to neck and face. Has anyone else experienced this? I did some searching and it looks a great deal like what is called a ketosis rash from being on low carbs, it is itchy and was red, but turned color and actually kind of hurt. It took about a week or so to get to my face and no allergy medicine works. Any guidance other than, "maybe see a doctor" will help. I've seen my PCP and they're getting me hooked up with a dermatologist. I am just really curious to see if this happened to anyone else...Thanks All

I had my surgery on 4/28 and I posted earlier this week. My neck has been itching constantly and broke out this past week in bumps. I tried Benadryl and it didn't help. I spoke to my doctor and she tested my urine. It had ketones in it. So we think that is what is going on with my neck. She encouraged me to begin eating more carbs too. Hope this helps.

You're so awesome. I brought it to them today and they finally did blood and urine. They still want me taking meds for allergies, but I'm almost certain this is a ketosis rash

I had this early on too. What helped me was a few things. I started using calamine lotion to help with the itching and hives, and I tried to increase my Protein intake as much as I possibly could. Because this happened to me right after surgery and lasted about 3 to 4 weeks post op getting in protein was already sorta difficult. I unitized unflavored whey protein in every form of liquid I could get down including Water. It wasn't the best tasting thing by far, but after about three weeks of that, the hives recessed and I wasn't itching all over. .

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
