Thank you Kristen. It's been a while, do you know if there is any info out there for a reset?

I've been considering having the bypass part so that I'd officially be a DS. However... after doing some reasearch, talking to my weight management doctor, and listening to the podcasts of the LCHF conference I'm holding off. One of the doctors at the conference said something that made total sense to me. Surgery helps you lose weight but a eating plan helps you keep it off. Sure, having the surgery would send me back toward goal but it won't be a lot more effective at helping me maintain if I don't get my eating in check. I still have plenty of restriction at 6 years out but have been eating the wrong things. I'm finding by going back to Protein first eating and by adding low carb and intermittent fasting (which is super easy for me since I'm not hungry in the mornings) I'd doing well. Add the support from my doctor with a visit every two weeks and I've been willing to hold off for a few months and see.

I'd bounced around about 15lbs above goal for awhile and then menopause hit. I gained 20lbs in a heartbeat and got really scared. I'm not 40lbs up and felt like I needed to take action. I may have added the bypass if insurance would cover it. But having to research it gave me a little space to research my options for getting back on track.

We'll see how it goes.

The more I lose, the more strict I have to be about my carb intake. I would start by cutting way back on carbs and see what happens. Personally, I have to keep my carbs about 30 grams or less per day to lose - even with exercise.

Thank you all for the fantastic responses. Everything you all say makes total sense. The surgery is just a tool. I have to change my eating habits and get back on track

Thanks again

You can have bypass and still face regain. From what I've read there really is no way around it - you have to eat low carb, keep overall calories in line, and exercise to keep the weight off after the metabolic advantage of the surgery wears off. Thankfully you feel the restriction, a tool that will always help you get back on track. Best of luck.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
