High pulse rate after sleeve surgery

Recommended Posts

Hello to all

I'm a 33 year old female who had her sleeve gastrectomy last May 16. I thought I was doing pretty well I'm terms of low pain and high energy. Daily I'm not reaching the liquids goal. Sometimes I reach 32 oz. They highest I got was last Tuesday with 66 oz (the recommendation by my doctor is 64 oz).

The thing is my first check was last Monday 23rd. I lost 15 pounds (hooray), my blood pressure was normal (it always is), BUT my pulse was high. First time they took it was 145, the 132 and finally 121. Doctor found it odd because I have no history of heart problems and I was feeling really fine. They ask me to drink more liquids and comeback on Wednesday. When I got there again same story. Blood pressure was 129/73 but pulse started in 145 and the got lower like before but never reaching 100 or lower. She send me to do a chest scan to see if there was a cloth and then they sent me home. Next appointment is tomorrow.

Ok this post has gotten pretty long, but I wanna know if anyone of you out there has/had this problem.

Thanks

Early out i had heart palpitations and a faster heart rate.. for me i drank some electrolytes and they eased quite dramatically.. during my first two weeks i was not drinking as much as i am now (5 weeks out) and once i uppped my Water level it settled down.

I notice that if i have not met most of my Water for the day i do get little flutters...

So i made a rule for myself... that i cant go to bed without meeting my water goals.

You might be dehydrated... if you are struggling consider breaking up the water to soften it... i know for me.. adding sugar free flavour helped... i also infuse my water with lemon and mint... thay helped the most.. it really softens the water and helps me get more in.

Obviously wait for your results from your doctor... but increasing your hydration is a must regardless of the results.

Good luck and keeps us posted

Thanks for your response. I've been trying to drink more liquids and meeting my daily goals. I'll keep your advice and discuss it with doctor again as she told me the same. Hopefully my results are clear and is just dehydration.

Unless you have a history of heart issues... i would be rather supprised if it is anything serious.

Dehydration causes more issues that we realise.

Having low electrolytes will cause all sorts of symptoms.. we need the salt and potassium.

It is vital that you increase your Water... the last thing you want is to have to go to the hospital to get an IV.

Check the color of your pee... my rule that helps me know is....

If its darker than the color of a baby chicken.... you are definitely dehydrated lol... a yellow chicken not a black or brown one hahahaha

So far for me I get a speedy heartrate when I eat/drink something too fast for my new stomach to keep up with.

Thanks to all for your responses. Today I went to the doctor. The results from the chest scan are good. I increased my Water intake and on Monday will be starting soft puree food. So far that seems to be the issue. Doctor told me that my body is getting used to a new situation. Got a new EGD today. They just want to know if there is no surgery related problems. Doctor is confident that I'll be back to normal.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
