Bra sales, yay or nay to shop pre-op?

Recommended Posts

Question. LB is having a big 40% off sale today, and I am getting sleeved 8/1. I have plenty of clothes to get me from my current 22 down to a 10 in my closet, but I'm going to need bras and underwear eventually. I have been as much as 100 lbs smaller than my current size and have always been some form of a C cup, just the band size has gone up over the years.

Should I take advantage of the sale and buy the next size down in bras and underwear in anticipation of losing the lbs this late summer/fall? I'm thinking it would be great to have some of those annoying/expensive things bought ahead of time so I don't have to think about it.

If you think yes, should I buy more than one size down? I'm currently a 42C, should I buy the 40C AND 38C? Maybe 2 of each to get me over the humps? I know everyone's shape is different, but I'd honestly be shocked to get below a 36C within a year's time.

I went from a 40C to a 34DD in a year. with the 40% off it may be worth it, but I wouldn't go crazy. You'd be surprised at what size you end up in.

@Stacyrg2. Maybe just one size down then and take it from there?

Idk... I've lost it's hard to say what will happen. Some people lose band and cup sizes. Other just lose band sizes. Personally, I've lost 140+ pounds and I started in an overflowing 48DDD and now I'm in an underfilled 44DDD but too large for a DD, lol. You may only want to buy one bra.

Underwear yes, bras, no. Your boobs will shrink but your cup size might not. You will shrink in band size, but not neccessarily in proportion to cup size. At one point, my cup went to a C and then back up to a DD. There is no rhyme or reason.

I started at a 42DDD, ended up as a 36D.

You might need side coverage, cleavage coverage, push up help...

There are always sales. Don't waste your money.

Thank you! I'm going to ignore the sale email and hold off until I lose lbs. Better to pay $50 for a bra that fits later than $200 on a bunch of bras that may never fit. I might jump on the underwear though . . . .

I'm struggling with the bra issue right now. All of my bras are just enough too tight that they're terribly uncomfortable (and they're all way old), but surgery is planned for early August. Seems silly to buy new bras if I'll only be wearing them until fall, when I know I'll have to buy again and no clue how my fit will change. But being completely uncomfortable until then seems inappropriate as well. Bras and undies are things I'm not inclined to get used. The rest of my clothes, I'll get at resale shops as needed until my weight is stable again. The foundation garments, I'll just have to buy a couple at each stage. :D

would an extra hook extender make enough of a difference to make them comfortable until then? you can buy them at JoAnns fabric store where the notions are.

So hard to say. 1 would probably be ok, but I would buy as needed after that.

It's in proportion to the band size. Trust me, there is nothing there to fill up the DD. Imagine empty tube socks and you'll get an accurate picture of what it looks like.

Actually it probably would, and I can't believe I didn't think of that. I used to do costuming and spent more than my fair share of hours at JoAnns.

I wouldn't spend too much on underwear either. Even 40% off isn't a great deal at LB - if you are going to shrink out of them quickly. They always have sales - sometimes 5/$25 which is frequent. In the beginning, you may just want to buy some Hanes undies! lol

I say NO.... I understand prices at the plus size stores are much higher to begin with... I'm thinking later you will be shopping in regular size stores where the cost is less... If you sign up for email from places like soma, Victoria secret- they send coupons and updates about sales.... You will also be much thinner so your underwear style/taste may change as you will have more options.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
