Creative foods for newbie! Howdy y'all!

Recommended Posts

I'm getting re-approved for surgery using Dr. Balette in Houston after being initially approved in August and the week-before preop blood work discovering I was pregnant (I had no clue). That was an interesting phonecall from the doc!!!

A little background, I lost my 16 month son to a rare aggressive brain cancer within 8 weeks of his diagnosis and decided to have surgery to become more healthy for my surviving 5 year old son. This discovered pregnancy was both a surprise and blessing....I had my new son (3rd) in March and am preparing mentally for surgery again, soon, as I've met my out of pocket w this pregnancy and so the surgery will be at no cost. I am remarkable at surgeries and pain, having 3 csections and never having taken pain meds and up walking within 4-6 hours with all so they are comfortable w surgery sometime this summer.

What creative foods have you found helpful? This came up as I was looking for cal count for a new salad at Panera bread and seeing a black bean Soup for 140 cals. My first thought was "that would purée nicely and taste savory..."

Looking for other ideas! I'm new to the board!

Where in houston are you planning on having your surgery done? I'm doing mine at Memorial Hermann - pearland, kinda far for me to drive, but that's where my doctor is now.

Memorial Hermann The Woodlands. I was at Houston Northwest last time but this time I have either as an option and like the newer place.

Working beyond grief for a better life!

I love this!

I am so sorry for your loss. Congratulations on your news!

As to your original question, early out I ate pretty simply: lots of Greek yogurt and cottage cheese, turkey, tuna, etc.

I am currently in the postop purée phase, and my doc said WENDYS chili is ok. So tonight was a busy night and I bought a small chili and it puréed really nice and tasted great. I could only eat a little less than a quarter cup but it was a welcome change from tuna, eggs and yogurt.

I had surgery with Dr Balette in March of 2015. He's awesome!

Right after surgery I mainly had yogurt and Fairlife milk. When I could move on to soft foods I often had eggs and string cheese.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
