Grilling at the beach....what to eat?

Recommended Posts

So I live at the beach... I know poor me! Well our tradition is to literally drive on with the 4x4, take some wood, start a fire grill dogs on a stick and that is our lunch. Of course there always some high carb potato salad and Pasta salad and s'mores, Cookies, chips, etc. Well I was sleeved last December and the old tradition does not fit in my new life. How would you change it up? Lean hotdog with no bun? cheese sticks or yogurt in the cooler? Any tasty things I could grill on a stick and that are on the bariatric diet? Side note I am not dreading the bathing suit this year! Beach here I come!

Great quality hot dogs on a stick. Skip the light or low fat junk.

Sausages.

Shrimp.

Meatballs.

Add chunks of onion, mushrooms, Tomato to any meat on a stick and enjoy! Everyone else will be jealous of you. Add some cheese to your cooler, too. YUM!

Beach grilling? :)

Anything from the ocean on a skewer with veggies.

Grilled cauliflower and melon.

Grilled yams instead of potatoes.

Grilled flashed tomatoes.

Seaweed salad with pine nuts.

Pork grilled under the sand---yummy!!!

The only thing not grillable is----well--- EVERYTHING is grillable. :)

OMG! I need to go back to the surf! :)

Ohkay - now I need to add buying a new grill to my list of needs after my surgery :D lol - couldn't I just hire one of you to come cook for me? :P

I was thinking of this burger that my family makes - we call it a Hobo Burger - you can use ground turkey burger - tomatoe slice and onion - we usually put half a potatoe on top - just do it without or add a different veggie like cauliflower and add a clove or two of garlic - add salt/pepper or whatever seasonings you like on your burger - wrap the whole thing in foil and put it on the grill until the burger is done :D

I'm only able to eat half but sharing was fun too :D

for a dessert I've seen people take an ice cream cone, fill it with berries and a few chocolate chip, wrap in foil, and warm up on the grill. Looks good

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
