Question for the guys....

Recommended Posts

Okay, maybe I shouldn't be posting here but my question is FOR men so I wanted to post TO men.

I just bought a Bowflex and I don't have the slightest idea what to do with it. I don't know where to start. What the hell IS this thing?

Help? Please?

Suggestions, thoughts, ideas.. anything?

Many women seem to do just cardio. While I don't want to be "man lumpy/bumpy" I do want to work on some target areas and all thoughts would be appreciated.

The advantage of home gyms like the bowflex are you can do multiple types of exercises with one machine. I suggest you break up those exercises by body zones. Back and biceps , chest and triceps, and then a day for legs. Start out by doing light weight/resistance with high repetitions. I would do 3 sets of each exercise with 15-20 repetitions.

Another good way to increase aerobic exercise by doing anaerobic (weights) is to do a circuit. Plan out your exercises in sequential order but rather than separating zones - work your whole body in one work out. Still do 3 sets/15-20 reps of low weights but take no more than 30 seconds to do a set with no more than 30 seconds rest between sets/exercise change. The bowflex is set up so that you can switch between exercises in under 30 seconds. Make sure you stretch and warm up with a walk on the treadmill before and cool down with stretching and a walk afterwards = 5 min should do. I can complete a circuit in my local gym in 30 min

others may have additional or different advice but this could be a start for you.

Wasa- try going to their website and order a video and/or brochure that shows you the exercises you can do. I have a "Cross bow". It's a cheaper version, but works basically the same. Great way to get some resistance training.

Yikes, that sounds AWFUL!

Did I mention that I absolutely HATE weight resistance training? I know it is necessary but I swear whoever invented the very concept must be sadistic and evil. That stuff is sooo heavy!

(end of whine)

Thanks for the info, I do believe I will take a little longer to put this thing together.

Thanks MsDad. I've been working really hard and it is paying off. Or, I should write I WAS working really hard. When my friend brought the Bowflex over for me he left it outside as I asked so I could wash it really well. (It was an ebay find) I could get it in the door but I can't budge it on the carpet and yes, it's on wheels and I still can't move it. :) It's in the way of my treadmill so I can't run on the treadmill.

However, I've lost four pounds from trying to move it daily. HA! The kids next door are going to come over and set it up for me. I think that is a better bet than trying to move that thing myself since that clearly isn't working. :D

Anyway, thanks again!

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Your so close now! It's gonna be great :) Wishing you a speedy recovery and looking forward to seeing how it goes!

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Am feeling this right now. My surgery date is 4/1. Sign the consent tomorrow. I feel like I overloaded myself with too much info, too many opinions. Got to the point where I was wondering if I should do this. Then I thought of my reasons for taking this step and that settled my nerves. Still get moments of doubt but am striving forward. Am just going to follow my book from the surgeon. Joined this because I was told by my dietician that I should do this for support
