Exercising one month post op

Recommended Posts

I had my RNY on 4/20/16. Until the past 5 days or so I haven't been excessively active. The weight loss slowed way down so I decided it was time to get off my rump, even if that meant I wasn't giving my husband my undecided attention as soon as I got off from work, like he expects.

So, tonight I walked about a mile and a half and ran (if that's what one should want to call that) for about 100 yards. I think I may have seen the pearly gates, bright lights, and my calling in my near future as I though I was going to die!

I may or may not have felt like a beached whale with no blow hole when I got back to my house.

Uuuugh! Why on earth would anyone one ever let themselves get like this!?

I was instructed not to run until 2 months post-op and I'm a runner. Was running right up until the week before my surgery. So if you aren't a runner or accustomed to running, you definitely shouldn't be pushing it so soon post-op.

good for you moving! I walk in the morning, really gets my day going.

but you know, giving your husband some undivided attention can qualify as good exercise too. ;-)

Good for you!! Although I like the physical benefits of exercise, I really need it more for the mental release. It's my time...no kids, no housework, no job, just me and my sweaty self :)

I know. I am pretty sure my husband has the same dilemma. potato chips/wife. potato chips/wife.

sometimes he makes the right choice and sometimes he's in the dog house! :D

He just wants me right there beside him while he does it! That's my problem. If I'm not right there...he isn't happy. Which leaves little time for me to do what I need to do.

you could do yoga while he Snacks. would that be better? or does he need you to not do anything else but sit there?

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
