A friend's mother once said ' better to be looked over than overlooked' and I have remembered that. However, that friend was the one person who I didn't tell that I was having WLS. She thinks she knows everything and I really couldn't be bothered to explain to her. I have used the ' oh, so when did you last qualify as a doctor?' on her before and it shut her up at the time but she has a very short memory! I knew that her response to me having surgery would be negative. A mutual chum did tell her and apparently she was very quiet about the whole thing. She knew it was a case of put up with it or STFU! She has STFU. No comments. Zilch. Just the odd mention about the fact that I am losing weight but it sticks in her throat. Why? I'm now slimmer than she is and she looks really mumsy whereas I am now rockin' the clothes!!!!!

So..........the point of all this waffling on is to say to you, tell your co-worker to FO, mind her own business and to be honest I would either do it front of all the supposed colleagues who have supposedly been indulging in Chinese whispers in the loudest possible voice that I could muster but without shouting, or of course, go to HR and complain as she is overstepping any boundaries that are acceptable, in any form.

Keep going with the poundage pounding and enjoy each ounce dropping off you. You are doing brilliantly so hold your head up and smile-especially at the witch from work!

Firstly tell her to go f*%k herself. Unless this is affecting your work (and I don't mean with regards to the time you are taking off) then it has nothing to do with her. You can eat a tub of ice cream in front of her if you want. That's your decision to make! She doesn't know if you then go to the gym for 5 hours after work. She is seeing a small snippet of your day and judging you on it which is bullsh*t.

She is 100000% jealous and is being defensive because she is bigger than you and probably feels like because you feel moved to making extreme steps towards losing weight and improving your health then it looks bad on her because she isn't. That of course isn't the case everyone's life/body is their own to do with as they please but I bet you that is what she is feeling like deep down. There is no other logic for her behaviour. And I highly doubt also that anyone else except her think like this.

I am early on it my weight loss journey and I am fully prepared for the comments, potential loss of 'friends' etc. But so far everyone around me has been wonderfully supportive. But if and when this does happen I'm not taking any of it because like you said no one knows what it's like to be you and have struggled in the way that you personally have.

My surgeon said something that really resonated with me which was that Doctors/Researchers are finding so many more reasons now why people struggle to lose weight or even gain weight so easily. It's no longer a simple case of just eat less and exercise more, things like your DNA and Genes come into play, chemical reactions, hormones so many things that people that are naturally slim DO NOT understand why us 'fat people' don't just do XYZ to lose weight. IT'S NOT AS SIMPLE AS THAT!

She is very jealous that you were brave to make a decision to change your life with wls. This is obvious! I have learned that when someone tells me about everyone else talking about me it is generally because that one person is going to start the conversations. Continue doing you and following your medical plan to become a healthier person. She will really be mad at you! . Her insecurities are definitely showing.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
