dcoral 14 Posted May 25, 2016 I have a question that hopefully someone can answer. I had gastric sleeve on May 4 and ever since then It hurts to swallow. It's not super painful just uncomfortable. Even if I just take a sip of Water. My question is what has changed about my esophagus? I don't understand why my esophagus is acting so differently. Any help? NeedaBreak4Me 1,755 Posted May 25, 2016 Nothing has changed with your esophagus. .. it could be.... - dry throat - reflux or heartburn (are you taking a PPI) - they scratched your throat with instruments during surgery If it causing you pain, contact your surgeons office and ask
PaulBenn 3 Posted May 26, 2016 During surgery, your esophagus was invaded by two breathing tubes and a bougie or Ewald tube between 35-40mm for some period of time. Those tubes give rise to your sore throat after surgery and interfere with swallowing and may cause some swelling. It should pass quickly, hopefully very soon. NjGirlInNcWorld 5 Posted June 3, 2016 Did you have the hernia repair? It seems most ppl with the repair have the pain and spasms as side effect. I have it also, i take my meds which help somewhat. Sent from my SPH-L720 using the BariatricPal App

bdfletch 166 Posted June 10, 2016 Hope you are feeling better by now. It almost sounds as though you may have had an esophageal dilation. I had to have one done when they did my EGD because part of my throat was so narrow. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
