H.pylori means no sleeve? [emoji45]

Recommended Posts

I'm feeling so discouraged after meeting with my doc today. She said that since I tested positive for H.pylori and have a history of acid reflux, the surgeon will probably not ok me for the sleeve and will have to do the bypass instead. I don't wanna do the bypass.

Had anyone else been told this as well?

Thanks

Right when I was getting to be sleeved, my primary doctor told me I had H.pylori. I told my surgeon, Dr. Yatco (NYC) and he said he already saw from my tests that I had it but it would not be a big deal. He said many people actually have H.pylori it's a bacteria but it shouldn't interfere with the surgery at all.

I also took pills to treat the H.pylori before surgery. While I didn't finish all the pills prescribed, I still got the surgery. It was never an issue for my doctors.

Hope everything goes well for you!

I was checked for h pylori at one of my first appts. It was negative. But they said if it was positive that they just treat it. I also have reflux. I just had the egd. It should not stop you from getting sleeve.

@@anjelikaj H.pylori is treatable and may delay surgery but I don't know why it would prevent you from having it. I would talk to the surgeon and see what "probably" means. Don't hesitate to get a 2nd opinion if you really don't want bypass.

That's so awesome!!! I haven't met anyone else on here who has Dr. Yatco as their surgeon. He's such an amazing guy, you won't regret it. He's very sweet and has always made me feel comfortable.

I think I'm ready for plastic surgery. What was the lady's name or surgeon?

If you have acid reflux I would go with bypass over sleeve. I developed reflux after my sleeve and it's debilitating. I'm revising bypass on 7/1 in the hopes of curing my GERD. Just my opinion but knowing now what do I would definitely pick bypass if I had s history of reflux. Good luck!

i had a really high levels for h.pylori when my blood work came back. so i am currently on a 2 or more week of twice a day antibiotics. i have never had symptoms so i don't think my doctor is super worried. my upper GI testing was all normal so just gotta get through all these pills. ;_;

The h. Pylori can be treated. Sleeve surgery is discouraged for people with reflux issues as they often get worse post surgery. How bad is your reflux? If it's not that bad, maybe you could still be a candidate.

Awe. I'm sorry to hear the change. I'm not sure how far along the process you are. My doctor said if I tested positive I'd take antibiotics for a month and be good to go. I was only in my 2 d month so I had time. I guess every doctor is different on things.

      Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!

      Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

        Am feeling this right now. My surgery date is 4/1. Sign the consent tomorrow. I feel like I overloaded myself with too much info, too many opinions. Got to the point where I was wondering if I should do this. Then I thought of my reasons for taking this step and that settled my nerves. Still get moments of doubt but am striving forward. Am just going to follow my book from the surgeon. Joined this because I was told by my dietician that I should do this for support
