i'm in the uk, dont have to do a pre-op diet, just eat something light the night before....try and look at it in a posotive way, at least is preparing you for the liqiuds, following the surgery.

Darragha! We share two of my very favorite things in common! I am a HUGE romance reader, and I am also getting my surgery done from Dr. Montgomery. I can't wait! Sept. 4th.

For the rest, I have 150-170lbs to lose...ouch!

Take care!

Hi to ALL!

My name is Marisa I'm 48 years old, I'm having lap band surgery on SEPT 10th At Unity hospital in Fridley MN. My Doc is Jeff Baker.

My weight gain started 17 years ago when I had 4 children close together. I had gained over 50 lbs with the first pregnancy and never returned to baseline again.

My weight in 2006-2007 was 250lbs @ 5'3".My health was declining rapidly. I couldn't walk up a flight stairs without being short of breath and strength.

I attended an informational meeting and felt moved to tears-- that this procedure was a definite God-Sed.

I started the long application process in January, I visited a dietitian for 3 months. My weight began dropping just by beginning to eat small pieces and increasing my activity a bit. Gradually I've lost 24 lbs.

I was shocked to find how satisfied small portions can be.

I've been weaning myself off breads so that It won't be a total shock ... I've decided I can live without the soft breads and possibly rice and Pasta cause there's alot of other choices out there.

I'm excited to be joining up with the September group of Lap Banders I'll be praying all our surgeries go well!

hey all. I have been trying to get the lapband for three years now. I have finally given up on insurance paying for it. I am going to self pay. I see the dr. monday and hope to get a date set. I still have to get a sleep study. Dont understand that why i need that when i am paying for it. Oh well... i am so excited! Will continue to be looking on here for support. I am scared of the preop and post op liquid diet too. Finally, i can see light at the end of the tunnel.

Hey!

I'm to be banded Sept. 27...just had my EGD on Friday, going for the psych exam tomorrow. Being a federal BCBS member, apparently you get the surgery date FIRST and try to get all other tests in before the big day--guess that means that approval is pretty much a done deal....whew!

Actually all of this has gone rather quickly for me. It's just starting to sink in that one day I'll be a mere shade of my former self...woo hoo!!!

:clap2:

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
