My surgery is on 6/7 and my surgeon told me to just do 1 week of pre op diet other wise today would have been my first day. I'm struggling so badly right now with "last meal syndrome" (don't know if that's a thing but I'm using it). I keep telling myself, " this is the last time you'll eat a cookie in a very long time!" "This is the last time you...etc"

Should I start my pre op diet early to give myself more control? I'm also not exercising near as much as I was before.

I don't feel ready for this surgery. I felt ready about a month or 2 ago and since it's such a long drawn out process I've almost gotten depressed about the waiting. Insurance made me wait 6 months but the Drs schedule pushed it out another month and I lost steam.

Anyone else deal with these feelings?

I am....surgery on the 7th as well. I started swapping food for Protein shakes a couple of weeks back and upped Water intake. I officially start today, but I'm nervous that I'll eat something I shouldn't. It's not too bad as I'm allowed sugar free Jello and lettuce and a few other veggies.

I suggest swapping out Breakfast with a shake, and just increasing your Water intake. It'll help. I also decided to eat some of my favorite meals that I knew I wouldn't have for a long time.

I'm not nervous for the actual procedure. If anything I'm nervous about recovery because I have a 2.5 year old. I don't think she'll get why I'm not able to play on the ground with her for a few weeks.

Awww yeah it'll be hard to explain. My daughter is 6 and I think she's more excited than I am. I wasn't nervous until I went to pre-op and they told me I couldn't wear deodorant. Then I just started to freak out.

I have found myself in the same boat! My VGS surgery was put off until June 20th. I was originally scheduled for April 25th. Now I'm conflicted about the TYPE of procedure I want. I was hyped and ready before. Now I'm thinking I should have the Roux en y or bypass because I'm hearing they help diabetes more. Does anyone have experience with that? I'm afraid if I do change it that they will push my surgery off even more!!! I have had several food "funerals" too CariVoe. I think I better stop though or I'll have even more weight to lose.

I decided to start the diet a few days early...today!!! I was assigned to do 7 days but by choice I decided to do 11 days...my dr was pretty firm about how I need to do the preop diet "PERFECTLY" this way I can potentially have a slip up (hopefully not) this weekend and not put myself in danger. Hubs daughter and I are headed to visit family this weekend and I know there will be temptations. Especially because it's a holiday weekend.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
