Weight gain 5 weeks post-op

Recommended Posts

New to this app. Don't really have a support group to ask. Is it normal to gain 3 lbs in a week this soon? I had RNY bypass April 20th and this just really got me down today.

It's most likely Water weight. Are you getting all your Protein and Water? How many calories?

I have done better yesterday and today. Before that I was nauseated all the time and I know I was way low on Protein and Fluid because I didn't feel like eating or drinking. I'm still trying to figure out my protein measurements. A little tuna, refried Beans, lunch meat, cottage cheese, yogurt. Trying to figure out how much protein in each little serving is difficult.

Increase Protein. I can't do lactose or sugar post op they both cause stomach pains and dumping. So I did no whey protein 60 per day and I started loosing weight. After 5 years I still have to remind myself to make sure I get protein. I don't eat meat because it sticks or causes obstructions so I do fish and shakes and veggies

It is very common to hit plateaus during the weight loss process. Just make sure you are meeting your daily Protein, Fluid and Vitamin requirements. And walk about 30 minutes each day (or equivalent exercise).

Week 4 was a no loss week for me. It's frustrating but we have to concentrate on the big picture. The next week I lost 4. Keep up the Protein and fluids.

I had a stall for about a week. I got out of it and have been back to losing daily. I realized that last week i was drinking the low cal gatorades all week. I never logged them as i didnt really think of em as anything.. 17gs of sugar and 17 carbs!!! So yeah, no more of those for me and ive been great.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
