I'm two weeks post op today and feel great for the most part! I am able to get in all food & drink with no problem and feel satisfied with everything. My problem is that I have a pain on my right side in my lower stomach. The pain was there after surgery but was small and only when I sat/stood up into the bed or toilet. My doctor said it was my muscles readjusting after surgery so I paid it no mind. Yesterday and today the pain has gotten worse. It's still only when I'm sitting down and standing up for that split second and then it's just mostly sore. I seen my doctor on Friday for my post op and he again didn't seem concerned. But now here I am really worried since the pain has increased. I'm scared its a leak! I also have been more active the past two days and went back to work this morning! I don't want to keep calling my surgeons office! I feel crazy!

@@haleymarie - you paid the surgeon for care, CALL!!!!

Better to be crazy and call/stop in than to have a potential medical problem and not ask!

Were you on any weight restrictions for lifting? I was and slipped up and lifted something (not thinking) and did get a twinge for a couple of days - called doctors office and they reassured me and said if it continued to come in or go to ER. I was about 3 weeks post.

I sincerely doubt it's a leak, since none of the symptoms you are describing are anything at all like a leak. But that doesn't mean it might not be a real issue, so you should still call your surgeon. Could maybe be an incisional hernia, which would not be much fun and would need to be repaired right away.

What's an incisional hernia

It's where your intestines poke through one of the holes in your muscle created by the incisions from the surgery.

@@haleymarie - I would still call - that's why they are paid GOOD money.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
