mellaniedavis 2 Posted May 23, 2016 I just started going to church. Going in with not knowing anyone but the priest. I have not had my surgery yet either, but did anyone else feel like bc your bigger then normal no one wants to get to know you? Not one person has asked me who I am or my daughter, who is 7 years and very approachable. I feel like I'm nasty. But I'm pretty, clean, white teeth, dress normal no cleavage showing, and smiles a lot. Inner Surfer Girl 12,015 Posted May 23, 2016 No, even at my highest weight I don't think I remember experiencing that. But, I am pretty approachable and generally don't wait for someone else to make the first move. I usually find that a smile and a "hello" go a long way. I am sorry that you did not feel welcomed at Church.
UsernameTaken 283 Posted May 23, 2016 I am sorry you felt that way, I wouldn't take a it personally. If you were at our church I am sure that would not be the case, we have such great warm welcoming people. Don't let that stop you from going to church, just need to find the right place for you
NeedaBreak4Me 1,755 Posted May 23, 2016 Some people are just weary of new unfamiliar faces...why wait for them... get out there and say hello... most people will respond respectfully ☺
GBLady41 393 Posted November 2, 2016 I understand completely how you feel. Sometimes you need to find a different church. Pray about it and let God lead you. Sent from my iPad using the BariatricPal App
blondie66 271 Posted April 12, 2017 You will notice a BIG difference when you lose weight. After losing over 100 pounds people open doors, smile, help me at clothing stores...honestly it's strange. I was invisible when overweight. People will just be nicer to you. It's unfortunate but I think it's a natural response in society. I've seen guys at work be all big smiles and doors open and they don't even recognize me and I've worked in same building for over 10 years before I would have been ignored. I have more energy and am happier now so people may pick up on that also. I have found there is a difference in how you're treated. 2 Ldyvenus and violetisle reacted to this

Ten years ago I was a size six and I was regarded very differently than I am now at size 24. People do sometimes act as if you don't exist. I'm a pretty friendly person so I often find that if I smile at someone or say hi it's fine but just walking through the world is very different when you're larger. People avert their gazes and it feels awkward. At least that's been my experience. It's possible OP just went to a very snotty church! 2 AdriAdri and blondie66 reacted to this
