I might be mistaken, but the size is the difference. The low profile port is smaller and flatter than the regular port. (as I understand it, I may be wrong)

Not sure why this is but it seems as though most Mexican surgeons use the low profile port during banding and US surgeons use the regular type. The low profile is a bit shorter than the regular one.

I'm glad I have the low profile type, it doesn't stick out much.

Does anyone know the difference in size? Like how big the regular one is, and how big the low-profile one is? I'm just curious and I forgot to ask my doctor and he's a ways away now.

I just had my appointment with my surgeon, and he told me about the 'mini port' as they call it. He said that the mini port is actually not as mini as some would have you believe, that they are the same size in diameter, but that the mini is like a cm smaller in height. So he said it really didn't make that big of a difference. Hope this helps.

Well... that must be what I have since the port on what they showed me was not even a cm tall... maybe a cm, but definitely not more. About nickel sized at the bottom and less than dime sized at the top.

I don't see a lot of differences in the two ports but Dr. Currie swears the low profile port makes a big difference. I have it and I think it is going to stick out soon, hopefully I am wrong about that.

Yeah, I am supposed to have a low-profile but when I go in for my fills Leslie says it feels large. Mine already sticks out a little. Hey, if that's all I have to worry about, bring it on! I don't care what it does (except sit in the middle of my forehead, no thankyou) just as long as I keep losing the weight!

My surgeon (Dr. Montgomery from NW Weightloss) said that if when I lost all my weight, that if my port stuck out and bothered me, then we could move the port underneath the muscle tissue. He said that the drawback is that if I needed a fill, the needle would have to go through the muscle, but if I am at goal, then most likely I wouldn't be needing fills. So the choice would be mine, but that if I decided to get it done, it would be a quick in and out surgery.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
