Who do you share the news with?

I see some people choosing to keep their surgery private. Who do you choose to share that info with? I find myself advertising it all over Facebook and to people I know that I'm in a bariatric program since I like the positive encouragement. Have had nothing but positive comments so far. :-)

Hi there! I recently had an internal struggle over how/what to tell my 8 yr old son. I think it's important to be honest and open with family and close friends. I know not everybody you tell might agree with what you're doing, but you are giving them an opportunity to support you through this process.

People have been positive because they know it's something I've been considering for a long time (and I want to improve my quality if life).

I think being open encourages people to ask questions so that they might better understand your choice.

I only told my husband, my mom, my dad, and a few friends. It's my business and I feel there's that negative stereotype of "taking the easy way out." Nothing about this has been or is easy! They don't know the feeling of the next day not taking in enough fluids and feeling fuzzy and dehydrated or going on a nice lake cruise and unable to eat the buffet because you can only eat so much food. Having to go to the gym and see a personal trainer so I don't get the super saggies and to help accomplish my goal. I keep it to myself. This is my business. I don't need judgments, course my in-laws prob think I have an eating disorder when I have to eat in front of them and can only eat like 1 cup of food lol

I told everyone, but I make it my duty to inform people of the struggles & issues to inform them it was not the easy way out.

I haven't been out front advertising it, but I've told more people than I expected to tell. I can't imagine not telling my kids! My family is in this with me and I need as much support as I can get. I also had to come to understand that this is not only my decisions but one that involves my wife and child. There are significant changes my wife has had to make to accommodate my new diet and eating habits. To deny her the opportunity to talk to someone about her struggles is just being selfish IMO.

my son is 9 yrs old. I've told him that I had an operation to help me become a healthier person. He was satisfied with that. Since surgery, I've told him some more details (size of my pouch, for example) as it comes up. He is my #1 cheerleader and says he is very proud of me becoming healthier. :)

I'm very open with my surgery. I'm not sure why some people choose to keep it private, but, every person is different. For me, this is part of who I am and is now forever who I am. I'm proud of my decisions.

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Had a sleeve in 2017, lost over 100 pounds. Had a DS surgery this year (2025) for more sustainable weight loss. 🤞

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.

Neat you have a pic of this day! I was sooo happy to get my surgery. It was well worth it! And I'm not even near my goal. I had surgery Dec. 2!
