I really need to get out of this slump I'm over the yogurt and Soup and I'm starving , mentally. I've even had a few chips. Oh thank God! I'm not the only one! Tomorrow is 3 weeks since my surgery and I can finally start on the yogurt, mashed potatoes and creamy Soups. While I'm grateful I can do that I'm dying for textured food!! I have to wait another two weeks for that. I hope I can make it!

Is it true hunger? It's so important to stick with the plan - eating chips could cause a problem with your healing. We often experience head hunger. Stomach acid could also cause the feelings of hunger. Take Zantac or Nexium. Here's a good article...

The first time you have solid food and it hits your new swollen sleeved stomach, you won't be so eager to chew.

You really shouldn't be hungry. The nerves aren't even reconnected for you to feel physical hunger. It you are feeling "hunger" in your chest, that is acid. Make sure you are on a PPI. If you are feeling hunger below your rib cage, that isn't hunger, that is your digestive system work.

Head hunger in the very beginning is very real. If you cave to it with chips in the first month, you are going to have long term issues staying on plan.

I had head hunger for the first two weeks after surgery. It drove me nuts, but the second I took a sip of shake it was gone so I knew it wasn't real. sugar-free Popsicles are my go to when I'm looking for something sweet. And when I need something a little different I go to the LS chicken broth or an ounce of cheese. I am 26 days post-op and it's going to be another 16 days until the next stage. I keep busy and walk whenever i can. Find stuff to keep you busy (I bought a puzzle-sad). But I find that if I don't have something to occupy my time/mind, I think about food and how good something would taste.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
