So what about plastic surgery in mexico via connections from this forum

Recommended Posts

So I know there's a whole forum for people who have used the connections this forum has made to reach out to do all inclusive packages in Mexico when they needed to self-pay for gastric sleeve surgery and couldn't afford to do so here in the states. Now I'm a long long way from this because I'm still pre-opp.. but I was wondering if this forum has such relationships also with plastic surgeons anywhere.. the reality is.. as overweight as I am I'm probably going to have a lot of excess skin and I'm going to want it gone.. and insurance rarely pays for skin removal surgery.. so do we have connections for self pay plastic surgery with good doctors in other countries via the forum like we do for the GSV itself?

Great question! I've been hesitant to partner with just any plastic surgeon in MX. There are many to choose from but not many that are 5 star. I have a meeting with whom I consider the #1 plastic and reconstructive surgeon in Mexico tomorrow. She's operated on hundreds of post-WLS patients and is a super surgeon. If all goes well, we will start working with her shortly. Stay tuned for further info.

@@Alex Brecher - I'm with you. @@Beck90 - there is a real art to plastics. WLS, can be screwed up if someone is really incompetent (and I remember one guy who was a flat out dangerous criminal in TJ). I have a friend who does Medical Tourism and she has several in SA she is very comfortable with. I'm just glad it's my upper thighs that need the most attention. There is only one person who will see that recreationaly.

@@Alex Brecher That's amazing! Perhaps there will be a package all put together by the time I'm ready to go for plastics.. Could you keep us updated in this thread about how your meeting goes tomorrow if you wouldn't mind and on further progress?

I am aware of some supposed plastic surgeons operating in TJ that do not have a license to practice (any) medicine, let alone plastic surgery! One of them dropped out their last semester and has been taking training courses for years. When you walk into his office he has literally hundreds of "diplomas" hanging on his office walls from courses he's taken over the years.

It's actually Tuesday late noon. I will most definitely keep you updated.

Yes....

Dr. Oscar Rafael Gastelum - claims to be a plastic surgeon but never graduated medical school

dr. Jesus Lopez - he's a weight loss surgeon who offers plastics but only has a few online courses under his belt

Dr. Ramos Kelly - also a weight loss surgoen who offers plastics but has no experience or real certifications. He was recently kicked out of a hospital for illegally performing these procedures

I'm sorry but we do not and don't plan on getting involved in plastics at this point. Let us know who you go with!

What changed??? I've been planning and saving in anticipation of BP adding this option. I had my WLS in Mexico and it was hella stressful having to research and vet every single doctor only by patient experience.

Trying to wade through the real people and the coordinators.

We can refer you to someone good but we've decided that we want to stick with what we are great at and not get involved in anything else. Send Bill a quick email and he can assist you: bill@BariatricPal.com .

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
