Last night was day 4 post-op. Before bed I took the following things:

liquid Hydrocodone/Tylenol (contains sucrose)

Centrum chewable Vitamin (contains sucrose)

Lamotrigine ODT (contains sucralose)

Zyrtec Dissolving Tablet (contains sucralose)

I dumped so badly I had my husband running for something for me to throw up in (didn't vomit but damn do I wish I had if it'd have made the feeling pass more quickly.)

I had taken the Hydrocodone, Lamotrigine, and Zyrtec together the night before just fine so I'm guessing the addition of the vitamin is what threw it over? I didn't plan to take it that late but I'd spent the afternoon napping so I was off-schedule for my Vitamins.< /p>

Has anyone else dumped on medication and/or vitamins? How do you find ones that don't contain real sugar (sucrose)? (I had to Google my meds to find out what the sweeteners in them were.) How much time between sugar-containing things do you wait to take the next one?

Sucrose is sugar, sucralose is a non-nutritive sweetener (Splenda). So your tylenol and Centrum Vitamin contains sugar.

I never experienced dumping from my Vitamins or medication but I stayed away from anything that contained sugar. Because it could lead to dumping syndrome. I used the Flintstone chewable for my Multivitamin.

I experienced the same thing, I took my Bariatric Advantage Vitamins the next day from coming home, which was like 2 in half days post op and I also dumped (without throwing up)really bad. After that I just held off taking my Vitamins for a couple of weeks. I guess my body wasn't ready to take in the sugar, and I figured it was like eating too soon even tho they are rather small in comparison to a meal. I talked to my surgeon about it and he said he wouldn't expect me to take them so soon. I wished he would've told me that at the hospital.

Sorry for intruding - I am not having Bypass but did have band and was removed. I do not have anything right now but was experimenting with Vitamins for after my sleeve and the Bari-melts did the same thing to me. Almost all Vitamins do the same for me. I found some Wellness liquid vitamins (Amazon) that do not have sugar alcohol content and don't make me run for restroom. I am sensitive to those things - more so than others. Keep experimenting with vitamins. I think I am going back to what James M. suggested - Flintstones chewables.< /p>

That is a lot to sit on your pouch lying down

I had that same problem with my band and could not take meds at least 30 to 60 min before bed, else i would get sick

I suggest taking much sooner and washing down with Water well before

Good luck

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
