Okay as if I didn't have enough shat to worry about! I'm now worried I have TOO MUCH restriction. My surgeons office has sample menus listed for each phase of the post op diet. Right now the suggestion is "lunch: 1 lightly scrambled egg and 1/4 cup of oatmeal".

There is NO WAY in H E double hockey sticks that I could possible eat that much! Less than one egg has me feeling like I'm gonna puke! I am having a very difficult time getting in more than 500 cals a day and usually only 400. I just ate 1 tbs of refried Beans and 1/8 of an avocado and I'm gonna burst! Where were you all at two weeks post op with this?

I was still on liquids at 2 weeks post op. Your surgeon's guidelines are likely meant as a maximum, not a minimum. Don't stress and don't push yourself to the point of any discomfort. This isn't a race to try to fit in a certain amount of food -- believe me, at some point you will look back at this point in your post-op progression and wish you had the restriction you have now!

I'm almost 2 years out, and I can't eat 1/4 cup of oatmeal and a scrambled egg at the same time. No way.

That was my first three months! In fact, I couldn't eat much more than that for about 6. Concentrate on fluids and Protein first. Skip the oatmeal.

The first thing I tried post op was a scrambled egg. I had like 2 bites. I was stuffed.

That meal plan is nuts

you're probably fine.

in the beginning everything inside is swollen. that swelling goes down at different rates for different people. do what you can, and don't force it.

Thanks everyone. I'm mostly concerned about not getting enough calories! My surgeons office wants 800 and I can't even get 500. I have very little energy which I'm attributing largely to not enough calories.

I was/am on puree. Just now integrating very soft foods. But I will be four weeks post op on Wednesday I was able to handle two small spoonfuls of cooked oatmeal on friday and then a yogurt and then a tablespoon of ground meat all day and was stuffed

I'm almost 2 1/2 years out and can only eat around 1000 calories, but it also depends on what I eat, when I stick to dense Proteins I get full fast and stay on track, when I eat junk i can start racking up the calories.

I'm about 3.5 weeks out -- and I find I can eat about 1.5 oz comfortably at a sitting. 2 oz. is too much.

My surgeon says this will change over the next few months and I will be able to eat more. So for now I'm also having one Premier Protein shake per day to keep my total Protein up and add a few calories.

I'm feeling great, so apparently it's enough!

I was still on liquids at 2 weeks. Didn't start purees until 3 weeks. It was at least a month before I could eat more than 2 tablespoons at a time. You don't have to progress as fast as your surgeon's plan allows. I certainly didn't.

Just do what it takes to meet Fluid and Protein goals and keep your calories up, even if that means staying on Protein shakes for as long as it takes. Believe me, you will lose that restriction sooner than you'd like.

I'm 2 weeks post op and it takes me about 4 or 5 different sittings just to get one Premier Protein shake in. I need to focus on Protein for the healing process as you do as well. I would substitute cottage cheese or yogurt for the oatmeal...

At 2 weeks post op I could not even eat food at that point, just Protein Shakes. But at 2 months post op - when I'm not drinking fluids I'm eating. I get between 500-800 (shooting for 1,000) calories a day. At the gym, I have been burning between 4-500. I need to eat more to lose in fact I was in a stall, and started eating more and broke the stall. I have between 5-6 meals a day all small in ounces (between 2 and 4 usually, 5 oz is pushing it), but all jam packed with Protein (tuna, chicken, Greek yogurt, cottage cheese, low fat cheese, etc). My doc said I should be eating 3 meals a day and no snacking, but I can't do that and get enough food in. So I have been doing this, and nearly 2 months and 40 pounds down, I would say its working. Maybe try to look on here for other recipes, and things you can eat at your stage. Everyone's body is different. It will get better! Good luck!

I would be seriously malnourished and underweight if I only ate 3x day. I've eaten 6-8 times/day ever since I started real food. I'm 2 1/2 years out, 10 pounds below goal and since I do not like feeling full by eating too much at once, this is what works for me.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
