MeJ 11 Posted May 21, 2016 Anyone else had a hiatal hernia repaired during the sleeve. I am 9 days post off and cannot drink or eat anything without taking my paid meds first. It's so frustrating when does the pain stop? Sent from my SM-G900P using the BariatricPal App
Lemm61 206 Posted May 21, 2016 I hope it gets better soon. I have a large hiatal hernia that will be repaired with GB RNY surgery on 6/1.
mrsdoubtfire 33 Posted May 22, 2016 I had a hiatal hernia repair during the sleeve surgery and I had no idea I even had a hernia. The doctor said is was a moderate size, go figure. Anyway, I'm only 5 days post op and eating shakes and pureed Soups okay. If pure liquid hurts to swallow I would try tiny little sips and see how it goes. Use the pain meds, and if it doesn't improve, call your surgeons office. I hope you get some relief soon.

Lemm61 206 Posted May 29, 2016 During my pre op visit this week, the Surgeon said that the pain with the hernia repair would be pretty significant and that I needed to make sure my nausea was well controlled so I don't vomit. I guess I'll find out soon, surgery on Wed.
Icantbelieveit 955 Posted May 29, 2016 Had it repaired with gastric on the 10th. No nausea and nothing too bad. Sent from my SM-G930P using the BariatricPal App
Nibbler 71 Posted May 30, 2016 8 months post op....had the hernia repair, it was not planned but "discovered" during surgery. I'm doing ok but need to continue with small bites. I have trouble with solid foods like mashed (or really any kind of) potatoes, bananas etc. I find its more comfortable if i mix up my bites with salad. For some reason the salad lightens up the heavy foods.
Madmax68 227 Posted May 30, 2016 I had a hernia repair with surgery. I actually stopped the pain meds two days in because they were causing nausea. I felt fine after that. Sent from my iPad using the BariatricPal App

I guess I'll find out soon, surgery on Wed.I was told basically the same thing. My pain level wasn't too bad the first week but I did experience bad nausea. You definitely do not want to vomit and risk internal damage. Best wishes for a speedy recovery. Sent from my XT1096 using the BariatricPal App
