Anyone else had a hiatal hernia repaired during the sleeve. I am 9 days post off and cannot drink or eat anything without taking my paid meds first.

It's so frustrating when does the pain stop?

I had a hiatal hernia repair during the sleeve surgery and I had no idea I even had a hernia. The doctor said is was a moderate size, go figure. Anyway, I'm only 5 days post op and eating shakes and pureed Soups okay. If pure liquid hurts to swallow I would try tiny little sips and see how it goes. Use the pain meds, and if it doesn't improve, call your surgeons office.

I hope you get some relief soon.

During my pre op visit this week, the Surgeon said that the pain with the hernia repair would be pretty significant and that I needed to make sure my nausea was well controlled so I don't vomit. I guess I'll find out soon, surgery on Wed.

8 months post op....had the hernia repair, it was not planned but "discovered" during surgery. I'm doing ok but need to continue with small bites. I have trouble with solid foods like mashed (or really any kind of) potatoes, bananas etc. I find its more comfortable if i mix up my bites with salad. For some reason the salad lightens up the heavy foods.

I had a hernia repair with surgery. I actually stopped the pain meds two days in because they were causing nausea. I felt fine after that.

I was told basically the same thing. My pain level wasn't too bad the first week but I did experience bad nausea. You definitely do not want to vomit and risk internal damage. Best wishes for a speedy recovery.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
