Hi I have a question over a year ago I had a gastric sleeve operation. the surgery was a success. I've never had a problem I never threw up, and I can eat whatever I want without getting sick. OK so that's the good news, here's the bad news before I had the surgery I suffered from very bad acid reflux. I take Prilosec every day, here's the bad news before I had the surgery I suffered from very bad acid reflux I take Prilosec every day Otherwise my acid reflux is very bad. I spoke to my doctor about this and he said that after the surgery after I lose weight maybe my reflux also known as GERD would go away but it didn't. On top of that I think I might have an ulcer. The doctor said that we could change the gastric sleeve into a gastric bypass, but how would that work ?? A gastric sleeve patient still has the stomach inside of them and the stomach juices from the stomach goes into the pouch to help I just food . If I don't have a stomach then how is the food going to be digested.? I'm really nervous about doing this. Any thought?

This sounds like a great question for your surgeon.

Many people revise from vsg to bypass. They still have a stomach. It cures reflux in almost everyone. Ask your surgeon about the mechanical details of how it all works, I am sure he or she can do a better job explaining than I can!

I am currently waiting for a surgery date to convert to bypass from sleeve. I developed significant GERD after my sleeve surgery, I didn't not have it before. I agree with Bufflehead and Inner Surfer Girl. You should ask your surgeon for a clear explanation of the mechanics. When I asked my surgeon, he drew a diagram for me that I still refer to. The short answer is you still have a stomach after bypass surgery. You're left with a smaller pouch and re-routed intestines. Your surgeon should be able to provide you with an easy to understand explanation. If he/she doesn't, keep asking until you understand what is going to be done to you. Good luck!

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
