loosing before or after first fill

Recommended Posts

I have read several times that people lost a lot mostly a month after surgery and than I am reading being in bandster hell until your first fill and not able to lose. Do they mean the first month after the first fill? Anyway I have a VG band and in my 4th week, so I am still on mushy food, but I can eat a whole pizza Hut chain in a 100 mile radius. Sofar I have been good and look the other way when nearing a Pizza Hut place. Have people lost a lot right after surgery? I have lost about 9 lbs sofar, but now I am feeling hungry all the time. I have my first fill Sep 6th, so I have a loooong way to go. My doctor promised me an agressive fill. Are there more people in bandster hell and feeling the same way? Thanks guys.

I have had my first fill and i am still in bandster hell. I lost 24 lb before my first fill and since my fill I have lost nothing. My weight keeps bouncing between 246 and 250. It is so hard to keep telling myself the weight will come off. I am keeping my food diary and staying on track but it is really hard when you are not loosing. Hope I get out of nuetral soon and get back to seeing my weight go down. It has been 1 week since my first fill and I have to wait till Sept 4th before i get another fill.

So believe me I feel your pain because I am right there with you.

Banded 6/21/07

first fill 1.5cc on 7/3/07

Thanks Tyana. How did you lose so much after the surgery. Were you on liquid diets? Are you able to eat anything right now and do you feel any restrictions? Hope things will get better for you.

I got my band on 7/31/07. I go the doctor for my post op tomorrow. I really need a fill bad - I too could eat a pizza or two. Do you think he might fill it tomorrow or will I have to wait four weeks from surgery date?

:whoo:I'm with you guys. I was banded on july 24 and don't get a fill until sept 5. I have lost 10 pounds pre & post op. scales are not moving!!!! My doctor told me this is NOT a weight loss time. Easy for him to say he didn't pay $17,500 for this thing, that doesn't even work yet. BUT I know we have to be patient this is healing time, since they do stitch it to your stomach. Good luck to all of you and me in BANDSTER HELL!!!-Kelli

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
