Irritable Bowel Syndrome

Recommended Posts

Along with GERD and Barrett's Esophagus, I have IBS. Wednesday while teaching I had a terrible attack that left me on the floor of my classroom and in an ambulance to the ER. I couldn't breathe, the stabbing pain was unbearable. I had eaten a cheeseburger for lunch and that set it off I guess , that and the minor stress of teaching :). If I avoid fried food, meat, all dairy products, I feel ok.

I'm so anxious for the mini bypass, because while I have every sane reason to avoid bad foods, I cave in to the hunger pains.

Eating for me is a process that always ends up with a distended stomach, reflux, and terrible lethargy. It's been this way for years.

I cannot wait to have the physical tool along with my psychological tool to once and for all end the terrorism of food in my life! I don't mean to demean the awful reality of terrorism but it really feels like food stalks me (in my head) and drives my whole life right now.

That needs to end

Prior to surgery, I had severe acid reflux (GERD). I am now 3 years post-op RNY gastric bypass. After surgery, I lost my hunger for food. So it wasn't hard to drop the weight. It was not like dieting. I have not experienced any GERD after surgery. The hunger does eventually return but it is not as severe as pre-surgery.

Mini-bypass is a different operation than RNY gastric bypass. So I do not know if the effects are the same. Perhaps someone who had a mini-bypass can join in and relate their experiences.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
