How do you take the pain meds (or any pills) after surgery? I've been reading that you can't drink much and definitely not gulp. Thanks in advance!

I take pills normally. People may be advised to crush them for a bit, but I really wasn't. My GE said pills that are smaller than an M&M are OK, my surgeon said that is very conservative. The only pills I won't take are Tylenol or NSAIDs. I only use liquid Tylenol now.

Call up your surgeons office and have them call in a prescription to your pharmacy for a liquid version of your painkiller. That's ridiculous that your surgeon gave you a script for pain pills right after surgery. You should have liquid codeine, or whatever pain medication they're prescribing for you.

I have liquid pain meds but I can't take it because it's awful tasting....I've tried it twice and just can't stomach it. So I've been taking Extra Strength Tylenol capsules and I can swallow them without issue.

I was allowed to swallow any pills that fit through a standard size wedding ring. My surgeon wrote me prescriptions for liquid pain meds (Lortab) -- that was the only one I needed in liquid form.

I was swallowing pills within 28 hours or so of being sleeved. When i was released in was told to resume my meds as normal, and my pain meds and all the meds they released me with were pills.

I did not have trouble swallowing pills from the time I got to my hospital room. I was able to sip enough to get them down easily.

but if you have any trouble talk to your team as there are options.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.
