3 weeks post op and stall

Recommended Posts

Yes, it is normal.

Stalls are a normal, natural, and necessary part of the process of losing weight. We all experience stalls, and almost everyone experiences a stall about three weeks after surgery.

Embrace the Stall

OMG!! I'm dealing with a 2 week long stall!! it's so frustrating! I was sleeved on April 13, and lost 20 pounds as of my 3 week post op visit , but nothing since! I'm being told by my nutritionist that 20 pounds in 2 weeks is a lot and my body is trying to catch up with this big change. But I totally understand your frustration!! I cry! Just stay off the scale !! That's what I have done. My clothes are looser, I feel great! I'm focused on that for now and praying this is JUST a stall. Good luck

I'm 3 weeks out and haven't lost any weight since after the first week. I knew of the three week stall, but wasn't expecting it after one week. Trying to stay upbeat and positive. Doc wasn't concerned at two week checkup. I have this fear of losing no more because my metabolism sucked prior to surgery. Common fear, I'm sure. We will all get through these stalls.

@@ndavis1991 How much Protein and Water are you getting?? Some lose slower than others and it all catches up in the end - but be sure to get all of your recommended Protein and at least 64oz of fluids in each day. If you aren't losing - try changing things around (eating a little more protein, exercise) and see if that gets the scale moving. Good luck!

Its normal and a part of the process. I dropped 20lbs durring the two week pre-op liquid diet, another 20+ the first two weeks after surgery and then only about a pound this last week. I freaked out but searched here and found several good posts and write ups about stalls. It normal and going to happen. I just changed to weighing myself every week and use that data along with my food log and the way my clothes fit as guides.

I have had to ill new holes in my belt. My jeans fall off my hips without a belt and my sirts are getting baggy. That tells me I am working the plan as I should be.

Bottom line is we are more than just the numnber on the scale.

You are ok...

I'm so glad I'm not alone! I was sleeved on 5/3 and lost 10lbs that first week and now nothing! I feel like such a failure, but it's good to hear that this happens and I'm not alone

I'm definitely slacking in the fluids. Very hard for me. Have gone back to more Protein drinks to help with Fluid and protein intake. Yesterday was a good day so need to build upon that and keep it going.

Im 3 almost 4 weeks post op and I havent lost any weight in a week and a half. Is that normal so soon?

Omg I hit a stall too!! I lost 25 pounds the first two weeks and then I only lost 2.5 this week. My dietician said it is completely normal as i introduce other food and that I weigh myself too frequently

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
