Difference between Dilation and Stent?

I may have to have a procedure due to some narrowing. What's the difference between a dilation and a stent? Recovery time?

In dilation they use a balloon to stretch open the stricture. Not sure about stents unless it means they put something there to prevent a stricture from reforming.
