Food intake after one year

Recommended Posts

What is the normal amount of food you can actually tolerate after one year with the sleeve? I feel as I can eat way more, hunger levels have increased. I now that after the one year mark is all about maintenance from here on. Any suggestions on any nutritional plans or guidelines would be appreciated.. Thanks

It's normal to eat more after one year. However, the one year mark is not about maintenance. Maintenance only happens when you reach your goal weight.

I am below goal and I eat about 1200 to 1400 calories a day. Still staying hydrated and in my Protein range. My husband usually gets between 1500 and 1900 a day. We both run 3-4 days a week. I also do zumba once a week, body pump 2x a week, and walk twice a week.

Above mentioned is the norm. 1200 to 1400. If you get extra calories in and you see a bit of a gain. Put some extra time into your workout.

Here are a few things to try for hunger.

(1) Protein eat fist ( if you use a food tracker..Try increasing Protein intake)

(2) Water can help fill your stomach up and give the sensation of full. Always good to hydrate.

(3) This may sound strange...Brush your teeth with a mint tooth paste after your meal. Some reason it soothes my stomach. It makes me feel full.( Extra benefit of a healthy smile..lol)

(4) get a good serving of vegetables with each meal. At 2yrs out I can get 1 cup to 1 1/2 of chopped salad in with my protein. About a cup of broccoli. Fiber Fiber Fiber!!!!

(5) if you have a craving..Salty sweet etc. Find healthy options to stop the craving...Salty Jerky..Sweet sugar free pudding with added Protein powder...What ever works for you.

Have you reached your goal weight? If not, there is no reason you can't continue to lose after a year out. I reached my goal weight right at one year, but I am now 8 pounds below goal at almost 21 months post-op. I eat about 2000 calories a day, but I do heavy cardio as i just ran my first half marathon and I'm now in training for a full marathon. My restriction is still pretty string I can only eat 3-5 oz. of meat at one sitting, but I do eat more frequently now (6-8 times a day) to get my calories up and not keep losing.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
