First day on soft foods -- ate too much too quickly, never again

Recommended Posts

Per my doctor's instructions, I am eating two ounces at a time while I am on soft foods. I hate 2oz of chicken salad about 1pm. At 2pm, I had a sugar-free popsicle. At 3pm, I had 2 oz of mashed potatoes. Bad mistake. I guess the chicken salad was still in my stomach because these potatoes are just sitting there, heavy in my chest.

Mashed potatoes aren't typically on my diet, but my younger sister wanted to treat me to something so she brought home some mashed potatoes. I put some in my little container but I probably should have used milk or something to make it less dense. Never ever again. No more potatoes.

Mashed potatoes are not really that great anyway for WLS. They are very high carb. You can make them using Protein powder to bump up the Protein, but in general, there are much better choices out there that are a whole lot less carby.

So sorry you have the overfull feeling tho. I think we've all been there. It gets better. :)

Our NUT told us that we shouldn't eat again for 4-5 hours after eating and that we should feel full that long. I would guess it would take that long for it to digest and empty, but don't know that for sure. That's a really good question though.

I'm amazed that you were able to eat that much, or even wanted to. I was choking down Protein shakes for over a month after surgery with absolutely no appetite whatsoever. Eating was a bit of a chore. I still don't get terribly hungry at 18 months out.

That first time eating too much though, phew - THAT, I remember! Lol. Mine wasn't for several months, though. Puked in the parking lot...sliming everywhere...sick for an hour. Haha.

My doctor's instructions are to have five meals a day at this stage. I figured two Protein Shakes and three small meals would be adequate. I just have to space them out more than every two hours.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
