I'm REALLY concerned about the pain in the pre-op (iv, endoscopy) and mostly the post-op pain such as incisions, walking, twisting to get up, gas, deep breathing, going to the bathroom, twisting back to wipe (sorry), putting on pants, moving from bed to bed at the hospital, getting in and out of the car, any pulling of the scars. I'm sure I'm missing stuff. Can anyone calm me down about the pain? I know it'll be worth it, but I'm needing personal success stories! (I know I can ask my doctors, but I'd prefer to hear from experience)

THANKS IN ADVANCE!

I don't even remember most of the stuff you are talking about it. It seriously isn't a big deal for the vast majority of people. Remember, they give you drugs to calm you down pre-op and for things like endoscopy so you really won't care much then. Post-op, they load you up with high quality pain killers. Take your prescribed pain killers as long as you need them and you will be fine.

PS what is really painful is what comes as the long-term result of morbid obesity. Try having a heart attack or just walking on severely arthritic knees for the rest of your life. THAT is painful and there really isn't any medication to fix it particularly well.

I agree. Also, other than some slight pain in my shoulder due to gas, I wouldn't really even describe what I felt as painful. It was more discomfort than anything.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.
