juliawhatever 4 Posted May 18, 2016 This is a stupid question but I'm getting vsg in 5 days and my roots are showing as they normally would since I last dyed my hair like two months ago.. I know I'm probably going to experience hair thinning/loss after surgery and I want to avoid dyeing it or damaging it.. is it better to dye it now or to put it off until after? Could there be a possible conflict with dyeing my hair at home and hair loss/complications? I probably sound silly but I'd rather be too careful and ask! Read2016 658 Posted May 18, 2016 I'm pre-surgery but no date yet... I don't think this is a stupid questions... If you won't be feeling your best for a few days post-op might as well be looking your best Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
Andrea72 510 Posted May 18, 2016 Definitely not a stupid question!! As a professional stylist, I will give my best advice. One thing you should know is all the meds and anesthesia will wreak havoc. Unfortunately it can, and most likely will cause dryness and possibly some shedding. What I would recommend is getting a good cleanser. Yes, there is a difference between normal Shampoo and cleanser. The cleanser will help rid your hair of the impurities caused from those things. As for the color, I'm not going to down you for applying it at home, but considering your upcoming surgery, I will offer this last piece of advice. Only a stylist that has seen you, and knows of the surgery, can custom fit a formula for you. This would be way more healthier/softer on your hair than a "one size fits all" color in a box. Congratulations and good luck on your journey.
Christinamo7 4,042 Posted May 18, 2016 I use the non permanent hair color - the kind that washes out in 28 days or so? but I am just enhancing my natural color, not changing to a new color. I don't know if that would be something you are interested in, but I have not had any problems with it at all.

PissiChrissi 200 Posted May 18, 2016 I'm a bottle blonde so my stylist bleaches my hair. I got it done a cpl weeks before surgery. She warned me about anesthesia causing Hair loss and I knew weight loss did the same. I'm 4 weeks out and haven't experienced any hair loss that isn't normal for me. My hair is soft, silky, and healthy still. I'm sure that will change deeper into my weight loss but so far so good.
