So I am 5 days post op... You know how they say to keep walking and keep passing gas... Well I went to Lowes with my husband today after finally starting to feel better and figured I could use a walk... Well I passed gas at Lowes after about 20 min of walking and unfortunately it wasn't gas... I apparently had my first BM and I started my period since this body is all confused and shocked after surgery. I mean it was bad.... on the way to the restroom I started to leave black gross trail .... Sooo embarrassing! How come people don't talk about this lol others must know this can happen lol

Good thing we live close so my husband went home while I was in a bathroom cleaning myself up and got me change of clothes... Saved by the hubby!

Still can't believe this lol I was worried that I was constipated... Wow

@@UsernameTaken Oh no! This is one of my worst nightmares! Sorry you had to experience that... how are you recovering otherwise? Getting in your Protein and Water?

@@betterme38 I laughed when I read this comment. I mean, it's a fair point, but lol!

All of it was LoL lol can't believe it happened to me, I feel like now I have to go everywhere with change of clothes just in case lol and yes definitely not constipated lol

Whatever I was wearing went straight into trash can, glad my hubby is a trooper and worked fast to get me change of clothes.

Guess now every time I will need to pass gas will have to go to bathroom just to be safe.

Oh and I got all my Protein in yesterday, but Water not even close... Really working on it, I know how important it is to not get dehydrated but with my tiny little sips of warm water I feel like I can't get all that in. If I am on full liquids right now do I count fluids for my meals as well towards my fluids/water intake?

You must not have seen the warnings..."Never trust a fart!". ;-)

I'm sorry this happened but I did get a laugh. I've had GI issues in the past and we call that a Poopy 911. My boyfriend and I were driving home from vacation (4 hr drive) and about an hour in my stomach hurt. I asked him to pull off the highway to find a bathroom and within what felt like seconds - it was too late. I shit myself sitting in my car in front of a convenience store. Luckily I had clothes and a beach towel in the car and wrapped myself up and waddled to the bathroom. Not fun but we still laugh about it!

Yup for sure, just told my mom about it, she got a good laugh.. I am surprised my hubby is not embarrassed by all this, it's like as if it's an everyday thing for him... I am was more humiliated in front of him lol

I gotta say, I feel so much better now, but yes, lesson learned, I cannot trust s fart specially 5 days post op !

This is just too much, I love it! I can sooo see this happening to me and my husband lhao! (Laughing his ass off) ????

This has nothing to do with WLS however...when I was a teen at a friends house she was mowing the yard and was being goofy, she turned n thought she farted (I didn't know at the time hehe) nope she ran as fast as she could bowlegged to the bathroom. It was hilarious and I was wondering what she was doing so I went in n she was in the shower, yep she shit herself. Damn, them snake turds just sneak up on ya lol!! Knocking on wood as I write this

@@UsernameTaken all your liquid counts - milk, shakes, Soup, popsicles, etc. :) Yesterday I only drank 24 ounces of Water but I had a TON of miso soup throughout the day, which all certainly added up to much more than the 64 ounce goal. It's just important to get liquid, doesn't have to be water. ^_^

Thanks, that makes it easier :)

The problem right now I have is that I get discomfort with cold drinks but warm in small sips are ok, so I am trying to drink more warm until I am all healed and the swelling goes away and can tolerate more cold drinks.

True,

However since I didn't know I had diarrhea, usually even before surgery I knew this could happen if I had diarrhea, but I thought I had Constipation since I was a late bloomer within gas passing at the hospital etc. so definitely caught me off guard lol

@@UsernameTaken I understand completely, I know after I have had diarrhea I will go to the bathroom just to be sure that's what it is. I think your husband jumped into a great mode for you 100% and you did great. This will definitely be a go to laugh when needed for you n yours. It's just poo ww all do it

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

That sounds awesome. I'll have to check that out thanks!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
