All the best to you! Please let us know how you are doing what it is really like post surgery. June 8th is my sleeve date! Funny the program I am in does not require the liquid diet pre-op but post-op. They say walk, walk, walk post surgery to get rid of gas and to heal. We only get one night stay in hospital then they send us on our way. You are probably much younger than I so you might bounce right back! Okay here is to your new life just like a butterfly spreading new wings. If you are reading this in pain you are probably thinking shut up you crazy lady lol. Just kidding. Alright keep us posted. Prayers for a speedy recovery :D -Michele

"shrunk liver 2016" really does work...my M.D. said he should YouTube my surgery for VSG , anyway up to a room by 1030am with pain pump and lidocaine Patches on my my scars to help with pain also... up walking by 2pm, hit pain pump up by 4pm, I/s every hr, up by 6pm, up by 9pm...always take a hit of pain pump when walking assisted... sleep on/off whenever the iv alarms &nursing would allow... up by 6am today, walking, 830 leak test... contrast was not bad, BUT was allowed to drink thru a straw... by 930am the start of day 1-2 of liquids only , goal 48oz along with my 1000cc bag of Water... I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
