Hi! I just had my surgery one week ago and I feel like all I think about 24/7 is eating unhealthy food. I'm constantly having immense cravings and can't seem to stop thinking about all of the things I want to eat. Has anyone else experienced this? Does it get better? I want to succeed and change my life and learn to make healthier choices so that I can feel amazing, and I'm nervous that these cravings and constant food thoughts are signs that I'm going to give in to unhealthy options once I can eat solids again.

All sorts of weird feels hit me during the 6 weeks I spent in the liquid diet pre & post-op.

I can say without reservation that all of the negative thoughts went away soon after I was able to resume eating high quality foods again.

The cravings came back in a way. Instead of lusting after junk food.....my thoughts would be on steak, tuna, chicken, salmon and other fish. That's the stuff I crave. Also bacon & eggs are foods I look forward to.

You are in the toughest phase right now.

Dub is totally right. I remember after surgery, still on liquids...still dealing with MAJOR food/sugar addictions...looking at all my old restaurants on Yelp and just dreaming of food...

It will get better. So, so much better. Hunker down and power through. Once you are able to eat actual food again, just follow your plan. The cravings subside, and I truly do crave different things now. I can also tell if my body is needing veggies or Vitamins - if I haven't been getting enough, I start to feel like absolute garbage. The same goes for eating anything high carb or just sort of grazing on things I know I shouldn't. After a day of that, I wake up the next morning feeling terrible, and that's when I reach for salad and grilled chicken and get back on track.

You'll learn to listen to your body, and it will want healthy things, once you retrain it :)

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
