Personal Letter Requirement

Recommended Posts

My surgeon requires that I write a "Letter of Understanding" and my support person has to submit one also. But they pretty much outline what is expected in the letter.

My letter has to include:

A - the risk of obesity

B - why the operation is performed

C- How the operation is performed

D - The expected benefits of the surgery

E - the possible risks of surgery

F - the alternatives to surgery

G - the importance of long term follow up

H - a detailed description of your support system

I - Intro to nutrition for Weight loss surgery and the post- op diet stages

HTH

I really don't understand why people are forced to jump through so many hoops for this surgery, people don't have to do this for other surgeries.

Ridiculous.

lol, I would have had to forge a letter from a "support person" as I didn't have one. Maybe I would have written one from "Ellie" (my dog), she was my biggest support system.

I am planning on writing the letter for my husband and having him sign it. If I waited for him to actually write it I would probably be qualified for the surgery in a couple of years.

This is an interesting requirement, the logic behind this is.... Just curious why the surgeon said you need this... Having a consult with a third doctor next week, curious if he will require this

This is a medically necessary surgery though. No one asks heart patients to promise in writing to give up greasy philly steaks.

The surgeon did not say why he needed it - The surgeon I am using is a "bariatric center for excellence" (northeast georgia bariatrics) so my guess is that the letter of understanding from the patients is part of that "accreditation" (for lack of a better term).

That is kind of weird considering you can anything shoved in or taken our via plastic surgery for far less struggle.

Agreed! Skin cancer patiences aren't asked to prove they used sunscreen or sign something stated they will use sunscreen and stay out of the sun.

Obesity is about the only thing has not been effected by political correctness, it still okay to have bias about obese people.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
