I was sleeved on 3/7/16. I have lost a total of 73 pounds. I had some complications after the first 2 weeks which landed me back in the hospital. Since I've been out it has been about 6 weeks. I am struggling with hunger. I'm not hungry on most days, I force myself to eat, and I get all my Protein requirements in for the day. Then there are some days that after I eat a meal (usually containing about 15-18 grams of protein) I am still hungry. The serving size is about 1/2 cup. I feel like I could eat a whole other serving. I am wondering if anyone else has had this before?? I don't eat more, I usually get a Popsicle or Water, but I'm usually still hungry for hours.

Help!!!

Great question!! I can't answer it, but I'm interested in the answer.

I was sleeved on 3/23/16 and I am going through the same exact thing.

Congratulations on your loss so far. That's impressive!!

I don't know why one day you are satisfied and another you aren't. It could have to do with what you are eating (especially if you are eating carbs/sugars), it could be head/emotional hunger, it could be stomach acid, or, you could actually be hungry. I recommend that you make an appointment with your NUT and talk about it. Share your food logs. Also, journal about when you are hungry and when you are not. Maybe your NUT can see a pattern.

I agree with ISG and it may be stomach acid. Are you taking a PPI? Also, it could be what you're eating. The more dense the Protein, the fuller and more satisfied you'll stay. What are your meals comprised of?

I'm new to this app, you'll have to let me know what PPI is.

My meal last night was goolash. I made it with chickpea noodles (high in protein), ground turkey and Tomato sauce. I was thinking back to the meals that I fell hungry after and I am noticing that they are more acidic meals, i.e. tomato, or Pasta sauce. I contacted my NUT and am awaiting her reply, but I never thought of acid as being something that can make me hungry. I don't eat carbs, bread, rice, regular Pasta, and I try to us low sugar items when I cook, unless I am making it from scratch. I don't do much tracking anymore, but I am going to start again and see if I can find a pattern. I'm just so scared that I am going to stretch my stomach out.

Thank you for your input!!

@@jenmcd623 It very likely is acid. Zantac or Nexium are two that are often prescribed.

Proton pump inhibitors (PPIs) are a class (group) of drugs that work on the cells that line the stomach, reducing the production of acid. They include: esomeprazole, lansoprazole, omeprazole, pantoprazole and rabeprazole, and come in various different brand names.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
