My surgery is tomorrow Tuesday May 17th so I too have been on Clear Liquids for the past week.

It really sucks.

Why do some have no clear liquid diet and others have 2 weeks? I've read the purpose is to shrink your liver so shouldn't it be the same for everyone?

My surgery was May 17th also.

When I am at home comfortably sitting my mind starts planning all the thing I think I can do. Because I don't feel tired in that moment my planned activity turns out too be way to much.

For example, this afternoon I drove 20 mins to my primary care physicians office to get a (non related) issue treated. Stood in line at counter for 5 minutes, sat in waiting room for 5 minutes then moved to exam room. Time spent in exam room was probably 15-20 minutes then I started to feel pain in my stomach. I sipped some Water but it didn't help much. So I went straight home without doing the 4 other activities on my list.

Took a pain med and sleep for 2 hours so I didn't make it to an evening support group meeting.

So I'm not sure if your body weakness is the same. I don't feel all the time like my body is weak, only after a physical activity when the pain flares up.

I hope this helps you!

I had surgery May 18th as well and I only needed to do the clear liquid diet the day before. My surgery was moved up all of a sudden so I didn't really do the liver shrinking diet but apparently since I am so young and do not drink, they didn't really see it as an issue.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
