With the exception of one slip up during the two weeks of my 2 week pre-op diet, I adhered strictly.

When I showed up to the hospital on surgery day, the nurse shamed me and make me feel very uncomfortable. I told her that I followed and she said she needed to "speak to the surgeon about iit" And she said it in a way that made me feel like she did not believe me. I only lost 5 pounds in two weeks. I had even called the nutritionist on day 10 to tell her how very slowly I was losing. She was not concerned.

I was wheeled into the OR feeling like a complete and utter failure. I am now one week post op and petrified to weigh myself. I am the kind of person that takes the number very seriously… I know I should not, but unfortunately it is something that is buried very deep in me. I was thinking of only being weighed at the doctors office monthly because I am feeling that if I weigh myself and see any small gain--Even Water weight -- it will make me feel defeated and sabotage me.

How do you deal with weigh-ins at appointments vs. at home? Are there any non-weighers out there? My feeling is that I did this to be healthy and I can be healthy just knowing that I am adhering to the plan and not associating a number on a scale with good health. Any thoughts? Also, as you lose do you start feeling more confident that you are "doing this"? I still feel like a fraud somehow.

I barely lost any weight pre-op.... but my surgeon didn't even with me the day of surgery. But it's coming off nicely post-op. Follow the plan and exercise and you'll be just fine????

My doctor tells you how much he wants you to lose pre-op if you don't do it you don't get the surgery until you do. He told me that most people do not lose the weight and they don't get the surgery on time. He wanted me to lose 25 pounds gave me four months I lost 40 pounds he was so proud of me he said nobody does that. I got to have my surgery 2 weeks later and I had a few pounds to enjoy all my favorite foods I spent my birthday in the hospital but I got three parties I got to enjoy before surgery. And I still went in 40 pounds lighter I didn't gain anything from my cheats.

@@leahhindi My Program does not require any weight loss prior to surgery (and no pre-op diet). The Nurse sounds like an asshole. If you think weighing yourself will be an issue (it will be for me too) then don't weigh until you go to Drs. Many others do that. You will not fail at this!

Thanks. I appreciate your replies. At the risk of sounding like a chickenshit, I feel like a scared little girl about to go on a roller coaster that I am not prepared for...I guess I will know when I am ready for regular weigh-ins.

Even if you weigh a lot. I do. You have no control really. As long as you follow the program I think weighing at appointments is a more sane way to go if you can restrain yourself.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
