Recommended Posts

it is a wild ride, isn't it? you look great! congrats on your success.

I *need* new work pants. so I went to TJMaxx yesterday but kept veering off to the plus size. and when I would steer myself back to the normal sizes no one looked at me like I was a fake.

@@CelesteMarie sorry it offends but I've lived here since 1980 so it's not a knee jerk perception. But then that's just my experience. Keep in mind I work on the strip so I see that side of it everyday. I know there are some good people here but they are the exception in my experience.

@@Christinamo7 thank you and ha I know just what u mean. Buying an 8 or a medium or small is a whole new world.

@barryw yeah I agree. I'm still not society's version of tiny I don't even know if I'm considered thick or normal or what. Sad that it even matters.

@@Tmitch817 gurrrrrlllll i got here and then i got all crazy thinking im still fat gotta go for size 4-6. society is a killer with weight/size issues. it's ingrained in our brains. plus i live in vegas. a town full of whores and douchebags but they all skinny lol.

Vegas isn't like that, lol. I know people call it "sin city", but it's not as bad as most most small honky think towns I've been to throughout the last 30 years filled with unhealthy, crack - head, tatted up (not that there's anything wrong with tats in good taste, lol) bottom - feeders. I hate that people perceive Vegas like you portrayed it. But oh well, I guess I can't change that. I find it different living here in Vegas. I never see the downtown or strip area unless I have visitors. I also think there are many health conscious people here, not necessarily fake, like California is perceived, but healthy. Maybe I'm just seeing "my little world" in Vegas and I'm delusional. Either way, keep up the good work and let's just thank God we made it through the surgery and are on our way to better health!

I was just in Vegas last week and it is a shame that the whole city is judged by one street. The weather is amazing. The view is amazing. Red Rock Canyon by far was the prettiest hike we've been on. I love to venture into the local streets, find local places to eat and meet the people. One place we kept going back to was Mr. Mamas. Our family had a wonderful time visiting your city.

i went to target this weekend. picked a medium dress and extra small sweater off the rack. i wasn't looking for xs by the way but all they had was xs or xxl lol. i went to the dressing room and saw myself full length in the mirror and thought holy ****. i think i'm small. am i small? on the daily i feel just like i always felt. like i feel better but still fat. could it be that im not perceived as fat anymore? why is it so important? how do we switch over from "fat mentality" to what's real? to what's actually happening with our bodies right now? am i still viewed as "fat" by society? am i normal now? is a size 8/10 still fat? how will i know when to stop? all the questions you didn't realize would linger so long.....

You look great

could it be that im not perceived as fat anymore? ... am i still viewed as "fat" by society? am i normal now?

Interesting. I read a news report this morning about a missing person who was described as "178cm, 85kg, slim build". I'm less than an inch taller and weigh 13lb more - I can't believe anyone so close to my stats could possibly be perceived as 'slim'. I know I'm still fat but it made me realise I'm getting more towards what society would probably consider almost 'normal' now.

You look awesome, by the way!

The weight loss certainly does a number on your perception of your body. I still see myself as far, but then I catch myself in the mirror and can't help but smile and think I look so much skinnier now. Having gone from a 20/22 pant to 8/10 is amazing! Shirts are M instead of 2XL. I do think I might see someone to discuss my body image issues.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
