swimbikerun 1,046 Posted May 16, 2016 How about a group or place or forum for those who are looking to compete? This can be in any sport. This means timed 5K's, marathons, half, triathlons, you name it. This would be a group for support for those entering and those who want more information and want to enter. Get involved! Get out there and keep weight off, get off old habits, get used to a more active life and see yourself as the athlete you can be or are.
Andrea72 510 Posted May 16, 2016 This would be awesome!! I'm just under 8 weeks post op, and two weeks ago, I felt so great that I allowed my niece to talk me into a half marathon in November. I don't run. Luckily several people on here have given me some great advice as to what/how/and things to purchase that would be greatly needed. If it wasn't for them, I'd have no idea about any of this. And the moral support/motivation.....I need that!!
swimbikerun 1,046 Posted May 16, 2016 I did a 10K 3 weeks and a day post op. Slowest I ever did but I completed it. I've done road/running races, triathlons, but more recently I've stuck to swimming. Any way I can help I will. There are also names of bariatric athletes we should pass around.
Lisa Carr 8 Posted May 16, 2016 I ride a road bike and can take 15-40 mi rides. Starvation is a great app for running and riding. You can visit with online friends and set up runs and rides of all types. Check it out. There is a free version.

jess9395 5,449 Posted May 17, 2016 Isn't that what this section of the forum is for? Or do you mean one specific to competition/race stuff? Count me in. I run and dabble in triathlons. I won first in my age group in a 10k this past weekend. Running my second full marathon at the end of the month. Lots of other races. Never ran pre op, started with couch to 5k at a few weeks post op and went from there.
swimbikerun 1,046 Posted May 17, 2016 @jess9395 Its a specific group/area for that purpose. Cheering you on and congratulations!! I remember the thrill of the Distance Series, the first marathon, my summer halfs. May your memories be just as enjoyable!
mngreeneyes 674 Posted May 17, 2016 I am interested. I am training for my first marathon in October and my first mini sprint Tri in August. In the meantime, I am running a few 5ks which I signed up for in January before I even considered this marathon or tri thing. So excited about all of it. I am slower than a turtle running through Peanut Butter, but I compete against myself, always trying to get a PR. My goal for my marathon is to finish before the bus that picks people up. For TwIn Cities that is less than 6 hours or about 13ish minute miles. Good luck to everyone on their athletic endeavors. pam John "the Penguin" Bingham calls us "Adult Onset Athletes". I've always loved that phrasing!

Did the same one last year. I've lost count on the halfs we are lucky in California we can run outside all year long! But yes my firsts were all very enjoyable!
