Hi There,

I went to the info seminar today and I have a few questions about the Lap Band. For those of you who have had it done, can you feel the actual lap band in your stomach??? i have heard it feels tight at sometimes, is this true??? does the port bother you? can you feel it???

also, have you had trouble with any specific foods post op?? i have so many questions before i make my decision. waiting to call my ins co tomrrow to see if they cover.

any input would really help me. thanks so much !!!!!:help:

KMG1997, I can not feel the band but I can really feel my port. I do not feel tight at all but I am in liquid stage for 1 and 1/2 weeks still and will not have a fill until early Sept. Good Luck!

No my port is not uncomfortable. I can just feel it. I had surgery just a little over 2 weeks ago. I don't have any pain but am Just a little sore at the port site. I went back to work 4 days after surgery. My incisions are just about gone!

Oh I can only feel it with my hand. I don't feel my port when I sit or lay. Maybe others do... I have my port on my side. Some have it other places. Its very interesting all the different responses people have to the band.

You don't feel the band around your stomach. The "tightness" is that after you have the band, you go back in for a series of fills in order to tighten the band so your eating is restricted. So you feel restricted or tight, which is a good thing. It's what lets me eat a meal of only 4 ounces and feel full!

I can feel the port with my hand, but otherwise I don't feel it.

You're wise to ask questions. There's a lot to learn to accomplish the bandster lifestyle.

I wouldn't trade it for anything.

My port is right in the middle, and I have to admit it's bugging me a bit. When I sit down, my fat tummy pushes up, and I can feel the port. It's right under my bra - in between my boobs. Plus, it still kind of hurts. I can see that it will be MUCH less intrusive as I lose weight and lose the beer belly

In any case - it's totally worth it!

Yeah, I've heard people say that. Mine's in the middle too, but I don't notice it. I do hear that that goes away with weight loss....... Congrats on your 10 pounds!

I just found out today that I no longer have osteoporosis! I don't take the meds for it....The only changes since last year are weight loss and weight bearing exercise! I've gone from the red danger zone in both hips and my spine, to the green safe zone in 2 areas just barely not into the safe zone yert for the third area! Cool! I thought giving up my diabetes meds was fun...This is great!

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
