I had a lapband to RNY revision on 3/28. I am having a very hard time figuring out what my new portion size should be. My Dr says that a lot of his revision patients seem to have the same issue. The "signals" or soft stops that I had with the lapband are not there anymore. And by the time I get a signal that I had enough with RNY, I am beyond full. How do you know when you are satisfied and had enough?

Ask your NUT how much (ozs) you should be eating and stick with that. Measure everything, eat slow and stop when your portion size is gone (or before). It takes about 20 mins for your stomach to notify your brain you are full.

Agree start by measuring all your food say two tablespoons then see how you feel. It may take time but you will learn what your full signal is.

Weight loss after RNY surgery is achieved by meal volume control. So as others are recommending, stay with the amounts given by the program in order to maximize your weight loss. The weight loss stage relatively short and then you will then transition into the maintenance phase, so it is important to maximize your weight loss during this first stage.

As you go over these amounts, you may experience dumping syndrome. Not a good thing. There are several pre-triggers that tell you when you are close. These can be sneezing, running nose, hiccups, mucous, or food suddenly changing from a good taste to an evil taste. The pre-triggers can vary by individual, but generally once you get to a pre-trigger, ONE BITE MORE, and it full scale dumping. YOU DON'T WANT TO BE THERE!

Thank you. I will make an appointment with the nutritionist. I haven't experience dumping, luckily. I have really tried to find those signals. I used to get the hiccup. Sometimes pain in my shoulder, but with RNY I haven't had anything. I may just be eating too fast, so I'm not giving my brain time to catch up and say that I've had enough.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
