I had lap-band surgery about 30 months ago. Lost 50-60 lbs but at this point it has stopped working. After numerous adjustments, my surgeon suggested the sleeve. Anyone been down this road?

After your adjustments do have any restriction? Are you eating more dense Proteins, keeping away from sliders etc etc. I agree that you should have lost more than 60 pounds by now. Has your doctor ordered any tests like a barium swallow or fluoroscopy? Could be that your pouch has enlarged or other complications that are allowing you to eat more.

Thank you for the reply. Yes I've had multiple adjustments and either everything gets stuck or too much gets through. My doctor feels that the sleeve has proven more successful for long term weight loss. food is my "poison" and I can't enjoy any of it. I've done the barium swallow test each time I've had an adjustment.

Lapband was removed mid June 2016. Put on at least 25 lbs. since. Scheduled the sleeve procedure for later in August and hoping I made the right decision.

I'm on that road right now. Lost over 100 lbs with lap band, the doctor said to switch to sleeve due to minor continuing issues. My insurance approved the revision. Lots of hoops to jump through. sleep study, ekg/stress test/echo, endoscopy plus more.

I finished jumping through most of the hoops and will begin my pre-op diet soon. As soon as I was approved for the revision, they completely unfilled my band. That was a little more than 4 months ago. I'm up 22 lbs since they unfilled it. I'm scheduled for a September revision (all in one).

I had a band to sleeve revision 3 months ago.... best decision i ever made, its so much easier, recovery for me was so easy.

Its way better than the band, you don't get that horrible stuck feeling, i don't slime, i have only vomited twice (my own fault, ate too quickly early out)

As a bander, once you convert to a sleeve you will find that you can eat a little more than a virgin sleever, this is due to damage that the band does to your esophagus, it reduces nerve sensations.

For me, i can eat everything, i have tested my sleeve over the last month and nothing is an issue.

I wish they offered the sleeve when i had my band initially, it would have saved me years of issues and problems.

Best of luck with your revision

I'm going through this now. I hope to have the band removed this month. I will have to wait 6 months for full healing before moving on to the sleeve surgery. Lots of people I have talked to have done this.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
