10 months after conversion

Recommended Posts

I suffered with lap band for about 8 years and finally decided to get it converted to RNY last year. I had the surgery July 15th, so tomorrow will be exactly 10 months.

I think progress is going a little slower for me because 1) this is a conversion, and 2) I have PCOS and have historically not been able to lose weight on anything other than long term starvation. Even that wasn't working by the time I converted.

As of this morning, I've lost 78 lbs and feel wonderful. I started at 275, so I'm finally comfortably in ONE-DERLAND! If you're hesitating to convert for any reason, I say DON't. Here are before and after pictures. I'm on the right, next to my sister in the before picture.

Congrats - you look wonderful! I think 78lbs in 10 months is a great loss! And your body has changed so much - so the weight isn't all that counts - do you keep measurements?

Thank you so much. It is so hard when I come to these forums and read about people losing 90lbs in 6 months. For I while it made me feel like a failure. Only recently, I've started getting comments from people about how great I look and I realize that even though the weight is coming off slowly, it's still coming off!

My stretch goal is to lose 45 more lbs, but I would still be over the moon to lose 25. I haven't weighed this 'little' since 2001.

Hi guys-

I'm checking in again now that I'm 11 months out. I've now lost 83 lbs and am down to 192.

40 lbs to go!

And I've got a consultation with a plastic surgeon in August. We probably won't do anything for a while but I want to know my options.

I included a recent picture. As you can see, my abdominal area is in rough shape after 4 kids! The last two were twins that each weighed 7 lbs the day they were born!

78 pounds in 10 months is awesome. I had my revision on May 27. I'm down about 15 pounds since. It was a little more complication and a more difficult recovery than I anticipated, but I'm so glad to have that band out. Now, if I could only get the hole from the G-tube to close, I'd be far more comfortable and happy! Keep up the good work.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
