2 days post op still in the hospital

Recommended Posts

I've walked all that I can but can't pass gas. I can't get any fluids down without being in so much pain. They won't release me until I get in Fluid by myself. At a loss on what to do???? incision are great everything is great except this.

Just keep on trying gently. I was so nauseated that they wouldn't even give me Water until my second evening in hospital. They were afraid I'd throw it up and hurt my incisions. Keep on walking as well, that really helps with the gas. For me, the turning point began on the second evening, late, they brought me 1oz of Water to see how I would do. It took me about an hour and a half to get it down, but it went down and stayed down. I had a few more oz that night. The next day was much better and I was allowed apple juice and broth. The gas bubbles were awful. I could feel them bubbling in my belly, but the only way I was able to "work it out" was to sit on the loo and slowly rock back and forth.

I really hope you are feeling better soon. the first few days are the worst, but seems like each day after just keeps getting better. Thinking of you!

I am early in the process and haven't had surgery yet, but I just wanted you to know that I am thinking of you and sending lots of good thoughts and hopes your way.

You're strong and brave and are going to get through this.

I luckily got out the day after surgery, didn't have an issue getting liquids down, but I had the worst hiccups of my life almost every hour, which made them keep me longer to make sure I wasn't injuring the incisions, also every sip I had bad gas pains. But I got home last night and i've spent most of the day in and out of sleep and taking my liquids. Hang in there, I know how it is where you just want to be disconnected from the machines and in your own bed! :)

The pain will be there as ur stomach is swollen from surgery...sip small amounts. I used to rub my belly down and do the rocking back n forth to minimize pain..it will pass give ur tummy time for swelling to go down.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
