So, for the last 9 months I've been on this journey. Along the way I've begun telling more and more people. The most common questions were about my feelings. Was I anxious, was I excited, was I nervous? I didn't really have any of these emotions. People seemed rather disappointed, lol. I'm 3 days into my preop liquid diet for surgery on the 24th and I just realized I am absolutely terrified. I'm usually in complete control of my emotions. I'm not sure if it's the diet or the fact that my mind is finally accepting that this is happening. Anyone else go from 0 to 60 on the emotional spectrum?

I am also having surgery on the 24th! I am on a 2 week liver reduction diet. I also am getting pretty nervous, however I just keep thinking about how much better I'll feel after I have the surgery and lose some weight!

We got this!

Melissa 4324 I start my pre op diet on Monday May 16 and I am terrified, I have run the gauntlet of emotions. Am I doing the right thing, should I not go through with it? I have had a full mix of emotions. Told my daughter today that I was scared

If all goes well and I have lost the other 3 lbs my surgery will be th 25th.

I am starting my last week of liquid diet for liver reduction. That will make 4 weeks, not been easy.

I hope everyone has a good surgery and great progress.

Thanks, Pixie09

Yep I was relatively comfortable about my decision until I received my surgery date and then the fear kicked in. Also on the morning of the op I shed a few tears because I was worried I was making the wrong decision.... I'm a few months post op now and very happy with my bypass.

The same thing happened to me, got my surgery date and fear and apprehension kicked in but i think i have started to compartmentalize it and i'm feeling pretty calm now. Knowing that long term health wise I'm doing the right thing.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
