wannabeahotchica 2 Posted May 13, 2016 I would like to know if any dialysis patients have had gastric sleeve on here. My mom is 220lbs. She is 65 and a dialysis patient. She is unable to get on the kidney list due to excess weight. She has dropped a significant amount. She was almost 300lbs before. However, she has been unable to get lower than the 220. The doctor wants her to lose more. We are examining her options. I would like to hear from others. Thank you.
jea(n__n)ette 98 Posted May 14, 2016 This is a question to ask ask the bariatric surgeon, nephrologist, and possibly endocrinologist. Does your mother also have diabetes? I see potentially big issues with her healing ability and Protein intake due to having ESRD (end stage renal disease). As a bariatric patient she'll need protein for healing, but as it is, ERSD requires her to limit protein intake as well. I haven't heard about hemodialysis patients that received WLS. HopeB. 2 Posted July 14, 2017 Hi, I am currently on Hemo-Dialysis and scheduled for a gastric sleeve on July 27, 2017. Currently on the two week liquid diet. I have a 8 oz Protein Drink for Breakfast (Silk unsweetened Almond Milk, chocolate whey Protein 32 grams) and then the rest of the day have 3 or 4 LiquaCel (16g protein) with only 3 or 4 oz of Water. I tried the pre-made Protein Drinks and they made my phosphorous go high. I also have sugar-free Jello with protein mixed in. I also need to lose weight to get on the transplant list. Good Luck, HopeB.
